The happiest man on earth!
I just finished listening to the audio of the book “The Happiest Man on Earth” by Edie Jaku.
All I can say is WOW!
I told my kids, $100 for everyone who finishes the book.
One of my daughters finished it already, she said to me “It’s the most beautiful and saddest book I ever read”.
Also, let’s reflect on the title of the book.
How a Holocaust survivor was the HAPPIEST man on earth.
He built up his life after the atrocities that he went through. What an inspiration!
This is a must-read for many of us who are children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors.
This book has opened my eyes and made me really understand the Holocaust.
I was born about 30 years after the Holocaust.
I didn’t realize how close I was to the atrocity. I didn’t hear enough about it.
I didn’t give enough respect and love to my grandparents who survived. They always seemed so grown up and strong.
I never understood or knew what they went through.
Or how broken they were. They didn’t want to talk about it much.
Reading this book made me remember how important friendship is, and how important it is to respect our elders.
Reading this book made me realize and appreciate all the good we have in our lives:
Family.
Friendship.
Life!
The Jewish people have been through the horrors of Auschwitz, yet we raised from the ashes and with our Rabbis leading the way, we have rebuilt!
The world has gone from war to peace, and from peace to war.
The Jewish people are people of
Love. Kindness. Caring.
That is our trait. It’s in the Torah.
That is the practice we exhibit.
Let there be peace!
RIP Edie Jaku. (4/14/1920 – 10/12/2021)
